Pine Grove Nursery School, Inc. began in the early fifties in the Old Pine Grove School House at the corner of Harris Road and West Avon Road. It was from this antique school house that the name was derived. In 1955, the nursery school moved to the Avon Community Club where classes were held for six years. When the West Avon Congregational Church completed the fellowship hall wing in 1961, Pine Grove Nursery School, Inc. moved there and has called it home ever since.

Our objectives are to provide a place where children develop self-esteem, independence, and sociability to prepare them for a smooth transition into kindergarten. We do this with loving, perceptive, teachers, all who have college degrees in education and significant experience in the field.

THE 3’S CLASS
Mondays and Fridays. Maximum of nine children with one teacher. Two classes in the morning, and one class in the afternoon.

EXTENDED 4’S
An additional Monday or friday morning added to the regular 4’s program.

SCHOOL HOURS
Morning class - 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Afternoon class - 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION
We do not have a religious affiliation. However, we do say grace before snack. God is great, God is good, And we thank him for our food. Amen.”

THE 4’S CLASS
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Maximum of ten children with one teacher Two classes in the morning, and two classes in the afternoon.

SPANISH IMMERSION CLASS
MONDAY 12:30 - 2:30, AND THURSDAY 9:30 - 11:30. (THIS CLASS IS AVAILABLE TO OUR FOURS AND PRE K STUDENTS. "Lunch Bunch" is offered on these days.)

PRE-K PROGRAM
Monday through Friday afternoons. Maximum of ten children with one teacher.

FUN IN THE SUN
A three-week extension of our regular program offered to children who are presently enrolled in our school. Emphasis is on water play, crafts and having “fun.”

TOILET TRAINING
Children entering Pine Grove Nursery School must have completed their toilet training.

ADMISSION POLICIES
A child entering our program for three year olds must turn three on or before December 31 of the year he or she enters. A child entering our program for four year olds must turn four on or before December 31 of the year he or she enters. A child entering our pre-kindergarten program must five years old by December 31 of that year.

REGISTRATION
Registration for the threes and fours takes place in Mid November. Please contact Pine Grove Nursery School for specific times and information. Notification is done through advertisements in local newspapers and by posters in public places.

Parents/guardians wishing to register a child for the three year old program should call the registrar for the three year olds. Those wishing to register for the four year old program should call the registrar for the four year olds. Please contact the school for the name and number of the registrar.

First priority is given to those currently attending Pine Grove Nursery School. In the three year old program, repeating threes and fours will be accepted before sibling or open registration.

At this point, sibling registration takes place. Siblings of previous Pine Grove Nursery School students are admitted, as space allows, before open or public registration (see below). Parents/guardians of children who have attended Pine Grove Nursery School and who wish to register a sibling will be given next priority as space allows. However, it is possible that in a given year, space may be unavailable. Past attendance at Pine Grove Nursery School cannot guarantee a space for a sibling.

Registration forms are sent to the parents/guardians for each child registered by phone.

The registration form and fee must be returned to the school by the specified date or the space will be given to someone on the waiting list.

Pre Kindergarten registration is done through a rolling registration, beginning December1. Parents/guardians should call the school and speak with the director if interested.

LATE OPENING AND CANCELLATIONS
When Avon Public Schools declare a late opening, due to weather, Pine Grove Nursery School will open late.

If there is a one hour delay in Avon, our morning classes will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m.

The afternoon classes will begin at 12:30 p.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.

If there is a ninety minute delay in Avon, our morning classes will begin at 10:00 and end at 12:00 noon. The afternoon classes will begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.

If the afternoon kindergarten in Avon is cancelled, or there is an early dismissal due to weather, our afternoon classes will be cancelled. Parents will be notified by telephone.

Listen to radio station 1080 AM for closings and late openings. If Avon Public Schools are closed, Pine Grove Nursery School will also be closed.

Sessions missed will be made up to the equivalent of a total of two in May.
