Avon, CT
has a vibrant business and retail community, beautiful parks and neighborhoods, and a highly rated school system. Avon is a suburb of the City of Hartford, which is the State Capital and the insurance and financial center of Connecticut. Consequently, Avon has access to all the cultural offerings of Hartford such as The Bushnell Theater and the Wadsworth Atheneum.

Because of the excellent quality of life it offers newcomers, Avon is the fastest growing town in Farmington Valley.

Avon,CT was founded in 1645 and was originally known as Northington or the North Parish of Farmington.  incorporated as a separate town in 1830, it took its name from the Avon River in England. Avon now boasts a population of more than 16,000.

The town covers about 22.6 square miles and the topography is varied as seen in the picture above. The highlands are in the westernmost portion of the town. Talcott Mountain on the West Hartford border is the most prominent feature with a peak of 950 feet. The westernmost border with Canton is delineated by the west branch of the Farmington River. The lowlands are in the Central Farmington River Valley with the east branch of the Farmington River flowing north through it.
